A sobering note of humility and perspective was injected into the IndusInd Bank MyyIndia campaign by actor Sanjay Dutt, who recounted what he had said to the Kaun Banega Crorepati host Amitabh Bachchan when he appeared on the game show years ago: “Never take your freedom for granted”. In 2013, the Munnabhai star was sent to Pune’s Yerwada’s jail to serve the remainder of a five-year term handed to him in connection with the Bombay Blasts case. Dutt was convicted for possessing illegal arms; he completed his prison term in 2016. The sixty-year-old actor appeared with sister Priya Dutt on IndusInd Bank MyyIndia, a first-of-its-kind digithon, held to pay tribute to India’s frontline COVID-19 workers.

Speaking on MyyIndia, Priya Dutt said that her brother reminded her of their privilege when she complained about being confined to their home. Dutt said that they were at least living in comfort; he had faced far worse in jail.

All things considered, Dutt is taking lockdown life on the chin, even if he is missing his wife and children; they are currently in Dubai. Dutt explained to show host Farah Khan that his wife Maanayata and their twins had left for Dubai before the lockdown was announced and he was to follow them in a few days. The enforced separation might be for the best, Dutt joked; there would have been any number of husband-wife arguments at home.

The silver lining here — the siblings are getting to spend more time together than they have in a while. They live next to each other and grab a cup of coffee together everyday.

Sanjay and Priya Dutt run the Nargis Dutt Foundation, named after their late mother, which is arranging grain distribution to the needy during the lockdown.
